تاريخ المياه المفتوحة

يبدو أن الناس لديهم الرغبة البدائية في السباحة كلما كان هناك امتداد للمياه. الإنسان لديه دائما عاطفة العودة إلى مصدر الحياة.

في مجال المسابقات، يمكننا أن نشير إلى الأدلة اليابانية عن المسابقات التي جرت في المياه المفتوحة قبل 2000 سنة مضت. في 1726، بينما كان في رحلة على متن قارب في نهر التيامز في لندن، تجرد بنيامين فرانكلين من ملابسه وغطس إلي الماء، وسبح من تشلسي إلى بلكفريرس وأدى بعض الحيل أمام المتفرجين أثناء سباحته .

وفي وقت مبكر من عام 1791 سجلت سباقات للسباحة في المياه المفتوحة تمت قبالة الأرصفة في البحر وعلى طول الأنهار في انكلترا.

السباحة في المياه المفتوحة هي على حد سواء أصغر وأكبر التخصصات في الاتحاد الدولي للسباحة. في أثينا، 1896، لمسافة 100 متر (أو نحو ذلك) تم سباق بين ثلاثة من البحارة اليونانيين عبر خليج ذيا قرب بيرايوس (ليست بعيدا عن المكان الذي يوجد فيه رسومات الكهوف التي تقدم أدلة على وجود الرياضة القديمة) بدأ السباق بين المنافسين بالقفز من قارب تجديف. وكان الفائز يوانيس مالوكينيس. ولا تقتصر السباحة في المياه المفتوحة على القوات البحرية اليونانية فقد كان: ألفريد هاجوز من المجر أسرع بكثير، وكان أول بطل للسباحة في الاولمبياد. تلك اللحظة التاريخية كانت أمام 20000 متفرج. في دورة بكين الاولمبية لعام 2008، تم تضمين سباحة المياه المفتوحة في البرنامج الأولمبي الرسمي بسباق 10كم . الاتحاد الدولي للسباحة تم تأسيسه في عام 1908، ليكون الهيئة المسؤلة عن رياضة السباحة وكرة الماء والغطس والسباحة التوقيعية والسباحة في المياه المفتوحة ، ويسجل فيها حاليا 203 اتحادات وطنية.
