تنبع أهمية بحوث التسويق من الدور الفعال الذي تلعبه في نمو منظمات الأعمال ثم الدور الاقتصادي لهذه المنظمات. فبحوث التسويق تفتح افاقا مستقبلية أمام الباحث التسويقي لاكتشاف العديد من الظواهر .ولم تعد بحوث التسويق تقتصر على المنظمات الربحية فحسب بل أصبح التركيز ينصب الان على العديد من مؤسسات القطاع العام كما أصبح الباب مفتوحا أمام باحثي التسويق لاجراء أبحاثهم ودراساتهم باستخدام قواعد البيانات والمعلومات المتوفرة من مصادرها الثانوية أو الأولية. وهكذا أدركت جميع الدول مع الألفية الثالثة أهمية ب.ت بهدف القيام ببحوث تسويقية تتبع منهجية علمية دقيقة تتناول قضايا خاصة بالجانب التسويقي بحيث تقوم بجمع اليانات حول هذه القضية والعمل على تحليلها وتصنيفها ثم تقسيمها لايجاد النتائج والحلول المناسبة وكذلك ابراز أهم المؤثرات على أداء النشاط التسويقي. ومع تزايد الأهمية النسبية لبحوث التسويق فقد أدركت منظمات الأعمال الحاجة الماسة إلى تطوير مراكز البحث التسويقي واجراء المزيد من الدراسات التسويقية لمواكبة التطورات التكنولوجية والتقدم الصناعي ومع ذلك الا أن هذا الادراك وهذه الأهمية لم تحظ بالاهتمام الكافي خصوصا في الدول النامية كون نسبة الانفاق على البحث والتطوير عموما ما زالت متدنية مقارنة مع الدول المتقدمة كما أن الفجوة مازالت واسعة بين طرفي الدول المتقدمة والنامية. وهكذا فان بحوث التسويق تعتبر من أهم الأدوات التنفيدية لعلم التسويق كونها تساعد منظمات الأعمال على تحديد المزيج التسويقي المناسب والعمل على ايجاد فرص تسويقية جديدة لاشباع حاجات ورغبات المستهلكين والقدرة على تحليل البيئتين الداخلية والخارجية أو مايعرف بالتحليل الرباعي للبيئة التسويقية. وتساعد بحوث التسويق في عملية التنبؤ المستقبلي خصوصا اذا ما بنيت أرقام البحث التسوويقي على قاعدة صحيحة ودقيقة من البيانات وكانت البيانات ضمن الحد الطبيعي للظروف المحيطة بالظاهرة التسويقية. وتنبع أهمية بحوث التسويق من خلال الخدمات التي تقدمها للقطاعات التالية: - الحكومة وتتمثل بالاشخاص متخذي القرارات. - مراكز الأبحاث التسويقية. - منظمات القطاع الخاص. - المنظمات والمؤسسات المحلية والدولية المختلفة.
