من الصّعب جدًّا أن يكون المرء في إسطنبول ولا يمر بميدان تقسيم ولو مرّة، بل إن هذا لمن المستحيلات. فهذا الميدان ليس محطّة مترو إسطنبول الرّئيسيّة وحسب، وإنّما مركز حياتها اليوميّة والثّقافية والعرق الّذي يصل أطراف المدينة بعضها ببعض، ويوصل أيضًا ما بين التّجربة السّياحيّة في المدينة والحياة اليوميّة المحلّيّة. أخذ الميدان اسمه من محطّة توزيع المياه القديمة للمدينة والّتي توقّف استعمالها قبل قرن من الزّمن، استمرّ فيه استعمال السّاحة والأحياء الّتي حولها كالمركز الثّقافيّ للبلد.

أهم الشّوارع الّتي تصبّ في الميدان لتجعله من أهم مناطق إسطنبول السياحية هو شارع استقلال الحيويّ والغنيّ بما يعرضه للسّائح من مقاه ومطاعم، ناهيك عن تجربة التّسوّق والتّجوال المدنيّ الحيويّ. تجد بالقرب منه منتزه غازي الّذي يشكّل الرّئة الخضراء الكبرى لوسط إسطنبول. الفنادق المهمة والمشهورة حول السّاحة لا تعدّ، ومن أشهرها الرّيتس كارلتون والمارمارا. حول الميدان مطاعم الأكل السّريع، وأمّا في الشّوارع المحيطة فستجدون كوكبة من المطاعم، والحانات والنّوادي اللّيليّة. أشهر معالم السّاحة نصب الجمهوريّة الواقع في طرفه الجنوبيّ، والّذي يرمز لتحوّل تركيا إلى دولة مستقلّة تحت قيادة أتاتورك، ويمكنكم استقلال الترام إلى التونيل، وهي عمليًّا ثاني أقدم نفق مترو دشّن في العالم بعد مترو أنفاق لندن.

إمكانيّة الوصول إلى ميدان تقسيم سهلة جدا، فما عليك إلّا استخدام الميترو (خط M2) والنزول في محطّة "تقسيم".
