إنّ شركة جوجل هي شركة أمريكية عالمية كبيرة، مقرها الرئيس في مدينة ماونتن فيو في ولاية كاليفورنيا، وهي متخصصة بتقديم الخدمات البحثية على الإنترنت، حيث تمتلك جوجل أكبر وأشهر محرك بحث على شبكة الإنترنت في العالم. كما تقدم جوجل أيضًا الخدمات الإعلانية عن طريق بعض المواقع التابعة لها كموقع (Google AdWords)، حيث تجني جوجل أكبر أرباحها وإيراداتها من وراء هذه الخدمات. وتوفر أيضًا شركة جوجل العديد من الخدمات والأدوات والحلول البرمجية على شبكة الإنترنت، كخدمات البريد الإلكتروني، وتطبيقات الويب، وشبكات التواصل الاجتماعية والإعلانية، وغير ذلك.

تعتبر شركة جوجل حديثة النشأة، حيث تم تأسيسها بتاريخ: 27 سبتمبر من عام 1998م، حيث لا يتجاوز عمرها 16 سنة. وكان تأسيسها على يد: لاري بيج، وسيرجي برن، وتعود بدايات هذا التأسيس إلى عام 1996م عندما كان لاري بيج وسيرجي برن طالبين في مرحلة الدكتوراه في جامعة ستانفورد في كاليفورنيا، حيث قاما بمشروع بحثي مشترك متعلق بمحركات البحث.


يعتبر محرك البحث الشهير الخاص بجوجل هو أحد أهم منتجاتها، فهو أشهر وأكبر محركات البحث على الشبكة العنكبوتية، فهو معروف عند جميع مستخدمي هذه الشبكة، ولا يمكن تصور وجود من لا يعرف هذا المحرك من مستخدمين هذه الشبكة. وقد نال محرك بحث جوجل كل هذه الشهرة والإقبال الهائل من قبل المستخدمين بسبب سهولة استخدامه، ودقة نتائجه.


ومنتجات جوجل ليست قاصرة على الخدمات البحثية، وإنما لديها عدد كبير من المنتجات المتنوعة والمفيدة، ومنها العديد من البرمجيات مثل:

Google Earth، وهذا البرنامج غني عن التعريف.
Picasa، وهو برنامج مختص بتنظيم الصور وتحريرها.
Google Web Shortener، وهذا البرنامج يستخدم لاختصار الروابط الطويلة؛ لتسهيل نشرها وتوزيعها من قبل المستخدمين، فبعض الروابط الخاصة ببعض المواقع وبعض البيانات تكون طويلة جدًا، فيتم نسخ تلك الروابط في هذا البرنامج، والقيام باختصارها برابط قصير.
Google Chrome، وهو متصفح الإنترت الشهير، والذي أصبح يزاحم المتصفح الخاص بشركة مايكروسوفت.

كما أنّ جوجل توفر الخدمات الإعلانية عن طريق العديد من المنتجات والمواقع التابعة لها، حيث أن الغالبية العظمى من إيراداتها تأتي من وراء هذه الخدمات. وتوفر جوجل خدمات الاتصالات والنشر عن طريق بريدها الإلكتروني (Gmail)، و (Google Plus)، بالإضافة لـموقع (YouTube) الذي قامت جوجل بشرائه في أكتوبر عام 2006. وغيرها من المنتجات.
