This was the expressway from Fahaheel in the south to Kuwait City.

Looks like this was a wet day. Roads were made up by this time but not the

pavements

These are at Jahra north of Kuwait City. At the left background you can see the typical water towers

Alison working on the Christmas letter in the Salwa flat (so small they were called the mousehutches). The computer was an Amstrad PCW which I bought second-hand from a student. Although IBM PCs were available these were the days before Microsoft had taken over the cyber world.

The large globes are water reservoirs which need to be high to provide the necessary pressure. The uppermost globe on the right is a revolving resturant.

Fahaheel is a town a bit south of Kuwait City

In Kuwait City this is an area of several shops all dripping with gold. In Britain this would be impossible as our judges in their red dressing gowns are nice to criminals but in Kuwait they wallop them, so there aren't all that many on the streets.

This is Kuwait English School when I went there in 1983. There was a separate infants department but this is the main block in just a villa. Some sheds were added as extra classrooms.

The small Salwa flats near KES where I spent a nice couple of years in the block on the left - top floor back. Fine for one person.

Well the tired old joke has it that the airport departure lounge is the best place in Kuwait and this sign points the way

This is where I spent my 3rd (hermit) year in Kuwait. The computer on the table is a Sinclair QL that had tiny tape drives and used the TV as a monitor. Many's the time I woke up with the TV on and a glass in my hand - suspect that Kuwait TV was more soporific than the wine.

A Kuwaiti answer to MacDonald except of course the hamburgers were that only in name.

These are the flats I spent 2 years in at beginning of my time in Kuwait. The 'hadji' shop far left was a hairdressers which was very convenient/

This is looking from our final flat towards the Persian Gulf. KES is behind the block of shops - in the middle was a newsagent who always called me 'Mr David.

Water tanker being used to fill the tanks for the 'garden' opposite. In later years the area was connected to main water supply although it was still fed to tanks on the roof of blocks of flats.

Kuwaiti flat completely covered with lights for a wedding. This is the sort of display my ostentatious neighbour strives for but fails miserably to come anywhere near matching

A couple of camels at Ahmadi (Kuwait) camel races. Didn't seem to be much racing action but quite a lot of interesting crowd scenes.
